Franklin Mine – Hydrologic & Hydraulic Design

Deere & Ault Consultants, Inc. (D&A) teamed with Shannon & Wilson to provide as-needed professional services to the State of Colorado, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety for the State’s Abandoned and Inactive Mine Reclamation Program.

Franklin Mine Site Overview.

D&A was responsible for the hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations and design of hydraulic structures associated with these requests.

Franklin Mine Channel.

D&A provided engineering services for the Franklin Mine north of Idaho Springs to develop a surface water control and drainage plan. The plan provides for the redesign of existing conveyance channels with rock riprap revetment and drop structures for stormwater flows through the mine property.

Rough grading of upper drainage channel.

The drainage plan also provides for construction of a new drainage channel adjacent to proposed site grading. Grouted sloping boulder drop structures were designed in accordance with Urban Drainage and Flood Control District design guidelines.
