This 2012-2013 project consists of two soil-bentonite slurry walls for the Northern Treatment Plant with a total length of approximately 8,350 feet. The northern wall is designed to surround an active wastewater treatment plant with buildings including a pump station and clarifiers, and has an approximate total length of 5,750 feet. The southern slurry wall surrounds several water quality ponds for the wastewater treatment plant, with an approximate length of 2,600 feet.
Challenges faced on this project include: project coordination with several contractors and engineers, multiple utility pipe penetrations through slurry wall and the construction of a clay plug to provide a positive water cutoff around multiple pipe penetrations of various size and depth.
Deere & Ault Consultants, Inc. provided design engineering services and construction quality assurance engineering. The geotechnical information supplied during the subsurface investigation was incorporated into the design of the soil-bentonite slurry. During construction, D&A provided construction quality assurance observation.
