South Platte Reservoir Littleton, Colorado
The 6,480 acre-foot South Platte Reservoir is located north of Chatfield Reservoir in
Littleton, Colorado. It is adjacent to several residential subdivisions and a popular
greenbelt park along the South Platte River. The site was transformed from a working
gravel mine into a municipal raw water storage reservoir for Centennial Water and
Sanitation District.
Construction of zoned embankment fill and cut off key.
A complete range of services was provided on this project from a feasibility study to a
complete geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, and environmental investigation.
Upon completion of the investigations, the project moved forward with the design of the
reservoir, preparation of plans and specifications, and permit acquisition assistance
with local and state agencies. Resident engineering services were provided during
embankment construction, and first filling. We are currently providing ongoing
monitoring and inspection services.

Major project components included a 65-foot high, 3.5 million cubic yard zoned earth
embankment, a 23,000 cubic feet per second Probable Maximum Flood by-pass channel with
grouted riprap drop structures, a multi-leveled outlet works, 500 foot long concrete
spillway, 3200 cubic yard buried concrete channel liner, and two inlet structures.

The ancillary components for the reservoir; included 3,000 lineal feet of 48-inch diameter
steel pipe, a 60 cubic feet per second pump station and 700 feet of interceptor drain to
control the outside groundwater table.
